My Vegepod (http://Vegepod.co.uk) that I got back in November 2020 has been worth its weight in gold. Everything I planted in it has been slowly ticking along in the cold weather and some days the temperature reaches 18c in it. The lower end of the temperature has been -1 but I have had no deaths thank goodness. The other bonus has been that I haven’t had to water anything. It seems that the condensation that forms on the inside of the canopy is enough for the plants.
This is what I have growing in the Vegepod:
Spinach Gigante d’Inverno. Also known a Giant of Winter. Excellent cold resistant spinach. Upright habit with lance shaped smooth leaves. http://Suttons.co.uk
Spinach – Red Kitten. I grew this variety in spring 2020 and it is very delicious and also looks beautiful. It is very tender and has a lot of flavour. It’s very slow bolting and is mildew resistant so what is there not to like. http://kingsseeds.com
Organic Golden Chard. Beautiful dark green leaves and deep gold stalks. They also retain their colour when they are cooked. Chard is very hardy but if you get snow or an extremely hard frost you might lose some leaves. I like to cover my chard in the garden with a cloche so that I can harvest all winter http://www.realseeds.co.uk
Perpetual Spinach (Leaf Beet). Small leaved chard with green leaves and thinner stems than chard. It is closer in taste to true spinach but it is much easier to grow and is far more vigorous. You just cut the leaves at the base and they grow again. http://realseeds.co.uk
Pink Passion Chard. It was thought to be extinct , but was rescued from a single packet by the dedicated people at Wild Garden Seeds in 2011. It has shocking pink stems and dark green leaves. http://www.realseeds.co.uk/
Leaf Salad – Winter Mixed. This is a very hardy leaf mix comprising of: Salad Rocket, Mustard, Mizuna Kyoto, Mustard Golden Streaks and White Pak Choi. http://dobies.co.uk
Red Top Breakfast Radish. A large round Italian Breakfast Radish. It is red on top and white underneath. It has very good flavour. http://realseeds.co.uk
Organic Osaka Purple Mustard Greens. Deep Purple in colour. Oval leaves and white veins. They make a nice big rosette and eventually a bit of a heart as well. http://realseeds.co.uk
